what’s in a CSA?

“Community supported agriculture” has historically been a strategy for farmers to create better reciprocity between their farms and communities. By paying for your summer’s weekly groceries up-front, you and your farmer are in this together. You know where your produce comes from, who’s growing it, when you’ll expect it…and you’ll support the sustainability of the land.

Meadowsong Farm’s CSA is a 16-18 week summer CSA designed for 1-4 people who regularly use a few different types of vegetables (around 3-5) in their weekly home cooking. Ideal for apartment life!

While not yet certified organic, all veggies from Meadowsong Farm are grown using organic and sustainable practices on land leased from Moraine Farm in Beverly, MA. Organic certification date TBD.

sample CSA shares throughout the summer:

spring has spring! bulkier crops like nightshades and cucurbits still have a few weeks to grow.

we’ll patiently wait for these heavy hitters, while enjoying some cool weather crops. expect your shares for the first few weeks to look something like:

  • 1-2 heads of lettuce
  • 1 bunch of spring turnips
  • 1 bunch of broccolini
  • A pint of sugar snap peas
  • 1 head of spring cabbage

the sun is hot and these crops are growing like crazy! now we’re entering the heart of the CSA season. all your favorites are thriving on the farm, and shares may exceed 5 varieties of crops if conditions are in our favor! expect your weekly share to look like:

  • 3 lbs of slicing tomatoes
  • 2 eggplant
  • 1 bunch of basil or cilantro
  • 3 lbs of zucchini
  • 1.5 lbs of cucumbers

September breeze and fall leaves begin to creep into the fields. pressures from weeds begin to subside, and colder nights bring an end to many crops’ production. long-growing crops take the spotlight, and your shares may include:

  • 1 bunch of yellow storage onions
  • 3 lbs of carrots
  • 2 heads of broccoli
  • 1 bunch of beets
  • 1/2 lb bag of arugula
